This hand woven, luxurious 'Huipil' is created in San Juan Colorado, Oaxaca. Each style is hand crafted with natural dyes and woven into 100% cotton cloth using the ancient weaving technique of a backstop loom. This bright and sophisticated yellow shade is accented in black embroidered diamonds. Made to drape beautifully in a naturally oversized tunic or caftan shape, or belted at the waist for a more fitted look.
It can take up to one month to make a single dress, not including the time spent boiling the dyes, hand cleaning and spinning yarn and embroidering. This lengthy process is why these pieces are limited, rare and one of a kind. Many dye plants are seasonal and can only be found during certain months. No two are the same making each huipil is completely original.
This sustainable and responsible process is created by a circle of indigenous women who are paid fair wages and are able to support their families while passing down their cultural traditions to the following generation.
